With water rates increasing and more restrictions on lawn sprinkler systems, Pearson Sprinkler Company has received significant feedback concerning sprinkler system repair. Many people have had questions concerning the new rules and regulations that have been implemented for the installation and maintenance of lawn sprinkler systems. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulates irrigation in the State of Texas. As of January 1, 2010, the State of Texas Legislature passed a new law that makes it a misdemeanor crime for any person not holding a valid Irrigator or Irrigation Technician license to install, design, repair, maintain, or even inspect a lawn sprinkler system. This includes a lawn crew. The reason that we bring this up is because we have had several calls to repair work that an unlicensed lawn crew or handyman has started, but could not finish, because a city inspector has stopped them and forced them to cease work because they were unlicensed. If your lawn company or handyman has an Irrigator License, the license number will be posted on their service vehicle by the front fender in minimum two-inch tall lettering. There are lawn care companies that do hold licenses but the majority of the lawn care companies and handymen do not. If you are not sure, ask your service person to show you their license. The TCEQ requires that any licensed irrigator or irrigation technician carry their license on them that has their name and license number on it. It will also have the State of Texas seal on it as well as the TCEQ header. These new laws benefit the homeowner or consumer because if you hire a licensed irrigator, they have accountability through the State of Texas. If you have a problem and the company will not return to make a warranty repair, you have their name and license number, and in turn the ability to file a complaint with the State of Texas. In addition, a licensed irrigator is required to stay up-to-date on the latest technology and products related to irrigation. Just like any professional license, irrigators are required to take continuing education classes in order to maintain their license.

These changes and new regulations have been implemented because lawn sprinkler systems need to be designed and maintained in a manner that promotes water conservation. Since our area has grown substantially over the years and we have not added any new lakes to support our growth, we will continue to stress our water resources resulting in lawn sprinkler restrictions. It is important that consumers as well as companies respect these new laws; otherwise, there will be major changes in the way we are allowed to have irrigated landscaping. If we do our part, we may be able to offset the population growth and increased demand for water by conserving water and using our lawn sprinkler systems efficiently and with a little common sense.

If you have any questions related tosprinkler system repair or how you can do your part in conserving water with your lawn sprinkler system, feel free to contact Pearson Sprinkler Company and we will be happy to answer any questions for you.

A Dallas outdoor lighting system can help to showcase your landscaping investment as well as increase security to your property at night. Pearson Sprinkler Company can assist you in planning, designing, and installing your outdoor lighting system. Our most requested lighting system is pathway lighting. Pathway lighting utilizes light fixtures that direct light down to the walkways, and most importantly from a safety standpoint, steps and obstacles. These are very popular as you do not see the light bulb itself, but rather the affect of the light bulb. When designed properly, you only see the path of ground. Other ideas include illuminating trees, water features, street address numbers, stone features, and moon lighting. If you can imagine it, we can light it.

Dallas outdoor lighting systems can be as small as one or two lights or as many as one hundred lights, depending on your needs. It is very important that you make a plan for the system so it is electrically sound. We are called to repair many outdoor lighting systems that were not designed properly, if at all. This is usually indicated by too many lights connected to a single wire, or a “daisy chain.” This not only causes lights to be uneven in brightness, but it can also be a fire hazard. When there are too many lights connected to a single wire, it creates heat in the wire, enough to where we have found melted wire connectors and wire with the insulation melted off. If the mulch in the flower bed is dry, this could result in a fire. Before you invest in a new lighting system, verify with your contractor that you will be provided with a design of the system, as well as a chart that illustrates the light fixtures, bulb size and electrical calculations. If this is not an option for your contractor, Pearson Sprinkler Company recommends that a deposit for the work not be paid until a design and chart are provided; otherwise, you might be paying for a professional lighting system that will only cause you problems and be a negative investment for your property. In addition, the design should also have the bulb wattage and type labeled. This way, when a bulb needs to be replaced, it is replaced with the correct bulb. Something this simple can prevent you or your maintenance contractor from inadvertently changing the design of the system and creating preventable problems.

If you have made investments in your landscaping, consider showing it off at night or if you just want to make your property safer, Pearson Sprinkler Company would be happy to come out and give you a free estimate and consultation for your outdoor lighting needs. Just have an idea of what your outdoor lighting goals are and Pearson Sprinkler Company will help you to reach them.

With a severe drought in our area, it is more important than ever to make sure that your Frisco lawn sprinkler system is in good, working order. Pearson Sprinkler Company is routinely finding sprinkler controllers that are still set to water 4-5 times a week. In addition, we consistently see lawn sprinkler systems operating with broken spray heads or geysers. You can follow the trail of water to the nearest storm water drain. Pearson Sprinkler Company cannot emphasize enough, the importance of doing a thorough check of your lawn sprinkler system. The homeowner can do a simple check of their sprinkler system by turning on a single station at a time. Simply observe the station operating to see if there is a geyser or a section with low pressure. When checking stations such as flower beds, it is important to check the shrub risers against the house to verify that the risers are not misadjusted and spraying water onto the wall, or more importantly, window frames. We have had numerous calls over the years where a simple sprinkler problem has evolved into a complete window frame reconstruction. Situations like this could have been avoided by doing a routine and thorough check of the sprinkler system. Pearson Sprinkler Company recommends that you check your sprinkler system on a monthly basis. You would be surprised at how often that you find a broken spray head or bad polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe connection.

Especially with Frisco lawn sprinkler systems, we have found poor workmanship in many of the newer subdivisions. In many cases the builders do not appear to budget very well for the lawn sprinkler system. This leaves the homeowner with a sprinkler system that has low-cost materials and poor workmanship. This is another reason that it is important to complete a routine check of your sprinkler system. There are literally hundreds of connections on a lawn sprinkler system that can spring a leak at anytime. Keep in mind that there are irrigation supply lines running throughout the yard, typically in the front yard and back yard. These lines can leak even with the controller turned off. A main line leak can usually be found by walking around the house and looking for any soggy spots. Pearson Sprinkler Company strongly recommends that homeowners learn how to shut off the water to their lawn sprinkler systems. The city requires a backflow device for sprinkler systems that have shut-off valves on them. Newer systems are required to have a PVC ball valve that can be a more reliable shut off. Take a minute to lean where these items are located and how to operate them. If you would like to learn more, please contact Pearson Sprinkler Company to make an appointment for us to come do a thorough check of your sprinkler system. At that time, we can show you how to set the controller, change your back-up battery, and show you where and how to isolate the water to your sprinkler system while maintaining service to your house.

Please help Pearson Sprinkler Company in our effort to conserve water by educating consumers.

Pearson Sprinkler Company has been specializing in Plano sprinkler repair for over five years. With the severe drought and watering limited to only twice per month, it is more important than ever to make sure that your lawn sprinkler system is operating efficiently so you can maximize your watering cycle. There are several things to look for when you check your lawn sprinkler system. The most important thing to look for is broken spray heads or geysers. These are very easy to notice and usually a simple repair. With the majority of homes in Plano being more than 20 years old, the original spray heads will start to fail. If you have an aging lawn sprinkler system and you have one head blow apart, it is good practice to replace all of the original sprinkler heads at the same time. When sprinkler heads are over 20 years old, they turn into little “ticking time bombs” and need to be checked very often for geysers. When you have a broken sprinkler head, it not only wastes water, but it causes a low pressure situation resulting in the rest of the sprinkler heads on the particular station to get inadequate coverage.

It is also important to observe the sprinkler head on each station to verify that they are spraying in the correct direction. It is very common for a loose spray nozzle to turn and start spraying into the street or neighbor’s lawn. One misguided nozzle can cause a large area of the lawn or foundation to stay dry. If you notice a misguided sprinkler head, try to simply tighten the nozzle. This usually restores the spray nozzle to its original position. If this does not work, you can try turning the stem of the sprinkler head until it is spraying in the proper direction.

Another common occurrence is for snails to migrate into the top of 360º spray nozzles. When this happens, it blocks a large portion of the spray nozzle, resulting in a loss of coverage. If you see this, the best way to solve the problem is to poke the snail shell with a piece of a coat hanger or marking flag in order to break up the shell so that it blows out the top of the nozzle. This will allow the spray nozzle to achieve proper coverage again. With Pearson Sprinkler Company’s experience in Plano sprinkler repair, these are the three most common problems that are easy for the homeowner to check and either correct or have corrected.

Lastly, check your sprinkler controller to make sure that you are not over watering. It is very easy to forget about your sprinkler system and how often it is operating. You need to make sure that it is not set to water on different programs. This will cause your sprinkler system to water more often than you may have set it for. Pearson Sprinkler Company offers a watering guide that will guide you in the proper watering schedule for our area.

Please contact Pearson Sprinkler Company and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
